Grief & Loss EMDR Intensives

A spacious, focused approach to processing loss

Grief does not move in a straight line. It arrives in waves, shows up in the body, and often resurfaces long after the world expects you to be “back to normal.” For many people, weekly therapy can feel too slow or too fragmented to meet the depth of what grief asks for.

Grief & Loss EMDR Intensives offer extended, personalized sessions designed to gently support your nervous system while helping you process the emotional, relational, and somatic impacts of loss. This is not about rushing grief, but about creating enough space, safety, and continuity for meaningful healing.

What Makes Grief-Focused EMDR Different

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is often associated with trauma, but it can be especially supportive for grief and loss when approached with care and attunement.

In grief-focused EMDR intensives, we may work with:

  • The moment you learned of the loss

  • Unfinished goodbyes, regrets, or unresolved relational dynamics

  • Images, sensations, or emotions that feel stuck in the body

  • Secondary losses (identity, safety, community, meaning)

  • Blocks to mourning, including numbness or emotional shutdown

Sessions are guided by your nervous system’s capacity. Resourcing, stabilization, and somatic support are woven throughout, and reprocessing is only introduced when your system is ready.

Who These Intensives Are For

These intensives may be a good fit if you:

  • Are navigating the death of a loved one, anticipated loss, or complicated bereavement

  • Feel stuck in grief despite time, insight, or previous therapy

  • Carry layered or intergenerational grief that feels heavy or overwhelming

  • Experience grief alongside trauma, burnout, or caregiver fatigue

  • Want focused support without committing to long-term weekly therapy

  • Are a helping professional who needs a contained, restorative approach to your own grief

Grief can be quiet, disruptive, or all-consuming. There is no “right” way to grieve—and no timeline you need to follow.

What to Expect

Before the Intensive

You’ll complete a comprehensive intake and preparation process. This includes identifying goals, building internal and external resources, and clarifying what feels most important to tend to during our time together.

During the Intensive

Intensives typically range from half-day to multi-day formats. Sessions are structured yet flexible, allowing for rest, reflection, and integration. We move at a pace that honors both your grief and your capacity.

After the Intensive

Integration matters. You’ll receive guidance for post-intensive care, including grounding practices, reflections, and recommendations for ongoing support if needed.

A Trauma-Informed, Culturally Attuned Approach

My work is grounded in trauma-informed, somatic, and grief-responsive care, with attention to cultural context, intergenerational experiences, and systemic stressors. Grief does not exist in a vacuum—it is shaped by identity, history, community, and the world around us.

What an EMDR Intensive Includes

Each intensive is structured to meet your needs while honoring your nervous system's pace. Typical elements include:

  • 90-minute pre-intensive session: Intake, preparation, and goal-setting.

  • 3-hour intensive session(s): Focused EMDR work balanced with resourcing and somatic support.

  • 90-minute post-intensive session: Integration, reflection, and guidance for ongoing support.

  • Workbook: Includes assessments, resourcing exercises, reflective journaling, ritual, music, art, mindfulness, and somatic practices to prepare for the intensive and track progress.

  • Phase 1 & 2 work: Establishing safety and resources before moving into grief reprocessing, if appropriate.

  • Creative and reflective integration: Journaling, art, music, ritual, and symbolic object exploration.

FAQs

Is this a replacement for weekly therapy?

For some people, yes. For others, intensives work best alongside ongoing therapy. We’ll talk through what makes sense for you.

Do I have to retell everything about my loss?

No. EMDR allows us to work without needing to recount every detail. Your experience is honored without being forced into narrative.

What if my grief feels overwhelming or numb?

Both are common. We begin with stabilization and resourcing so your system is supported before any deeper processing.
